In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, two problems have a mutually beneficial solution. The problems? A growing population of jobless, homeless young people and a number of wasteland eyesores. The solution? Train the teenagers to transform the sites into community orchards. The result? The fragrant blossoming of Addis and productively occupied youngsters harvesting bananas, lemons, avocados, oranges and papayas. The community orchard: £20 prepares the ground for the trees, buy a trio of fruit trees for £30 or train and equip a budding horticulturist for £75.
