In India, street children hungry for food and literacy but also deeply suspicious, are offered a route off the street. £1 per day, per child funds informal drop-in centres that offer a different life. Tea, sympathy, warm meals, learning and mentoring gets some of the children into small hostels, where gentle support helps them to flourish.
